We are here this early morning to celebrate the Golden Car Festival at Our Lady of Snows Church, Thoothukudi. The church itself is 300 years old this day. It is tied very closely to a historic conversion by the Portuguese Missionaries, that happened here in the 16th century. The Golden Car is 53 feet high to represent the 53 beads of the Holy Rosary. The Golden car is a symbol of gratitude of the seafarers of Thoothukudi. Today, this gratitude is universal.
For me personally, this is a celebration of coming back to my roots as I was born here. Many folks, are spread across the globe and might not have had the opportunity to be here today. I hope this small video helps you connect with Mother Mary and the people here.
I dedicate this presentation to all of the seafarers of Thoothukudi as each one of us is somehow connected to them, if not through family then by spirit.
God Bless and thank you for watching!
